Wow, its hard to believe that I have been President of Spring Lake for almost six
months. I took over in August when Tara Savarise stepped down after a long and
distinguished tenure on our board. Tara's willingness to share with me her breadth of
knowledge of Spring Lake's history has eased the transition. I greatly appreciate her
support and friendship.
This past summer, we also bid adieu to several other long-standing board members:
Jim Morrisey, Kerry Herman, Shari Panitch and Scott Treiber. We thank them for all
their hard work and wish them well in their new endeavors.
We have been fortunate enough to have several new volunteers step forward and fill
some of these newly vacated positions. However, there are still vacancies on the board
that we are very eager to fill. Our greatest need is for people willing to help
rebuild and grow our baseball and softball programs.
In addition, the position of Vice President has gone unfilled for quite some time.
The VP would work closely with me on special projects and issues that affect the board
as a whole. Several special projects that the board would like to pursue are aimed at
addressing the sharp decline in participation in Spring Lake sports among kids in 7th
and 8th grade. Offering new options, such as coed kickball in the spring and coed
volleyball in the winter, might generate renewed interest in team sports among this age
group.
For over 40 years, volunteers have provided valuable programs to District 103
children. Please continue this tradition by stepping up and helping out. If you have
questions about volunteering or other SLSL issues, I can be reached at
Jeanne@slsl.net.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Top
