Spring Lake Sports League Fall 2010 Soccer
Dear Parents,
Although it is difficult to consider what the kids will be doing next fall when all we want to think about is summer, it is time to get excited about soccer! For the upcoming season, we will continue to follow the academy style training approach for players through the 3rd grade, though we will be making improvements based on many of the suggested changes we have received from coaches, players and parents. The academy practices for this year will include both more coaching for the coaches and more team focused development. We will also continue with the combined 6th-8th grade boys and girls coed league based on the feedback from the older kids.
As a reminder, for the modified Academy Style Training program for grades 3 and below, players will be assigned to a specific team for the duration of the season. That team will be assigned the same practice time as several other teams in the league and will be assisted at practice by a trained and experienced coaching staff. This approach provides consistent skill development for all players while allowing parent coaches the opportunity to develop cohesive team dynamics by having the same players each week for games. In addition, coaches get the benefit of learning and improving their coaching skills by working alongside an experienced Director of Coaching (DOC).
To help you plan now for next fall, we will keep the same academy schedules as last year, as well as keeping the same days/block of time for games (please see synopsis). As each academy age group has two potential days, please indicate which day you prefer between these two and we will do our best to try to accommodate your request. Please note that for any late registrations we will be very limited in our ability to accommodate schedule requests. Also please note that practice days for grades 4 and above will be determined by coach availability and are not yet known.
Registration
Grades 1-8: May 10 to July 5, $150 online at www.aboomasports.com/slsl.
After July 5, registration fee increases to $185. We strongly encourage on time registration to allow time to develop teams and schedules. Early registration will also help us make sure we have uniforms ready to go at the start of the season. No registrations or refunds will be allowed after July 26th. A processing fee of $35 will apply to all cancellations.
Kindergarten: May 10 to August 25, $150 online at www.aboomasports.com/slsl.
We understand fall schedules change over the summer, so if you need to make changes to the information you provide for your child, please notify us as early as possible at Peter@slsl.net.
Leagues
There are individual boys and girl's leagues for Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grades 2-3, and Grades 4-5. Girls and boys in Grades 6-8 play in a coed league. Kindergarten through 3rd grade will participate in the academy style training, while the 4-5 and 6-8 grade leagues will not participate in academy practices and will instead have individual team practices.
Kindergarteners and first graders play 3v3 micro soccer without goalies. The Kindergarten through 3rd grade leagues keep no official scores. Games for Grades 2-3 and above have official referees. Team jerseys, shorts, and socks are included in the registration fee.
All leagues have a practice during the week. Games will be played at North Park. To alleviate the stress put on the fields by multiple games in a short period of time, especially when the fields are wet, games will be spread out from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Individual schedules won't be finalized until the fall, but please refer to the synopsis for days/times of games for each age group.
Required Equipment - All SLSL soccer players are required to wear protective shin guards during practices and games. Players should also have an age appropriate ball (size 3 for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, size 4 for Grades 2-5 and size 5 for Grades 6-8) with their name on it and a water bottle. Soccer cleats are not required but are strongly recommended.
Referees - Students aged 14 and up (as of August 21, 2010) are eligible to officiate soccer games. Interested students should contact Patti Darmali at 847-940-1983 for details.
Website - Check the Spring Lake Sports League website (www.slsl.net) for the most current soccer information and a link to the registration and volunteer site.
Sponsorship - Please consider sponsoring a team. Sponsorship forms are available on the website. Questions about sponsoring should be directed to Tami Stensby at tami@slsl.net.
Volunteers - Please remember that SLSL is an all-volunteer organization. Your involvement is necessary in order to have a successful season. Most importantly we need volunteer coaches and commissioners for each age level. Please volunteer by going to the volunteer tab found at www.aboomasports.com/slsl.
